EP11: iPadOS Preview

Welcome to Episode 11 of Unpacking iOS. This episode is all about iPadOS, and there’s a lot to talk about here … so, let’s start unpacking!

If you have been an iPad user for any length of time, you probably already know that the software that runs on the iPad was originally designed to run on the iPhone. Apple have just adapted it a little bit here and there to make it run well on a larger screen. However, that is beginning to change because the iPad has carved out its own unique position in the market, and it’s a different from the iPhone.

Now, sure, Apple have added iPad specific features in the past, but they have always fallen under the umbrella of iOS. This year is different. This year we get to experience iPadOS. It’s still a modified version of iOS, but the name alone is giving people a lot of hope.

Why? It suggests that Apple is finally committed to developing the iPad as a platform that is no longer dependent upon what happens to the iPhone. It is a standalone package like WatchOS, TvOS, or MacOS, and so with any luck, we won’t have to wait the customary two years until new features are added to the iPad.

So, here are the features that I am most looking forward to in iPadOS.
